The eccentric comedy, set in a developing nation, explores the human desire to stay up to date without giving up one’s roots. An elderly Ghanaian fisherman, forced into retirement, embarks on an extraordinary adventure: during one of his trips to the sea, he resurfaces with a talking fish who, together with his extravagant friends, will help the protagonist learn to navigate the modern world.
Zoey Martinson is an award-winning writer and director, active in both film and theater. Born in Africa, she has lived in London and the United States, acquiring a unique perspective that is reflected in her work, oriented towards the investigation of the diaspora and issues of social justice. Supported by Kofi Owusu-Afriyie, a dynamic and enthusiastic Ghanaian Line Producer, specialized in international collaborations, with The Fisherman she won the Programmer’s Award Short Narrative at PAFF 2019, becoming a finalist for HBO short films at ABFF, Cinquest, Brussels Short Film Festival and obtaining first prize in the Diversity category at Cannes 2020.
