The last night of the millennium – December 31, 1999 – at the Palace Hotel, a luxury hotel within a castle in the snowy Swiss Alps. For this special New Year’s Day, the hotel will be welcoming rich, odd people who are looking forward to an extraordinary, unforgettable night. Catering to their every need is the general manager and a sizable group of waiters, attendants, cooks, receptionists. Nobody, though, could predict the absurd decadence that will overwhelm the party in a few short hours…

Roman Polanski

Polish-born French director, screenwriter, actor, and producer Roman Polanski was born in Paris in 1933. He debuted with Knife in the Water in 1962, a film that passed at Venice and earned him his first Oscar nomination, followed by Repulsion of 1965 and Cul-de-sac in 1966. In 1968, Polanski moved to the USA, where he filmed Rosemary’s Baby and earns his second Oscar nomination. In 1974, his Chinatown obtains eleven Oscar nominations. Back in France, he directed and starred in The Tenant (1976). His 2002 film The Pianist earned him the Palme d’Or and Academy Award for Best Director. Polanski presented Carnage in the Main Competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2011 and An Officer and a Spy in 2019, which was awarded the Silver Lion.
