Director and cinematographer, Francesco Piras was nominated in 2019 for the David di Donatello for the short film Il nostro concerto and in 2023 was in the official short selection at the Nastri D’Argento with Mammarranca. He has directed the photography of numerous short films, documentaries and films including Salvatore Mereu’s Bentu, which was screened in competition at Venice Days in 2022. In this short film, the special closing event of the 38. Critics Week, Piras recounts the passing of the baton from father to son for the management of the family sheepfold, with in the background a terrible invasion of locusts that devour everything. The story is set in Sardinia, the director’s homeland, and “tilipirche” is the Sardinian word for “locust.”
