Lena, twenty, runs away from a family she feels trapped by and meets Stefan, two years older, who shares her desire for freedom and acceptance. Over the course of a single summer night, between Novi Sad and Belgrade, the two are swept up in the student-led and civic protests shaking the country, amid occupied university buildings and streets in turmoil. Their escape from both family and collective chaos eventually leads them into nature, the only place where it still seems possible to be truly free.
An editor before becoming a director, Jelena Maksimović (Belgrade, 1984) worked with Ivan Salatić as editor on You Have the Night and Wondrous Is the Silence of My Master. Together with Salatić and Olga Dimitrijević, she co-wrote this fiction feature debut, following her documentary Homelands. She is the first Serbian woman director since Soja Jovanović, who came to Venice in 1966 with Eagles Fly Early, to present a fiction feature at the Venice Film Festival.
