50th VOGALONGA

Rowing Season 2026

On a late spring morning, the Basin of San Marco fills with colors, reflections, and voices. This is not a regatta like the others: it is the Vogalonga, a celebration of water, oars, and the most authentic identity of Venice. Thousands of rowers from all over the world gather with gondolas, caorline, kayaks, dragon boats, and every type of rowing vessel: what matters is not winning, but taking part. Born in the 1970s as a peaceful protest against wave motion and the dominance of motorboats, the Vogalonga has evolved over the years into a cultural and sporting event with profound symbolic meaning. The route, about thirty kilometers long, crosses the northern lagoon, passing through Murano, Burano, and villages suspended between water and sky, before returning to Venice via the Grand Canal. What makes this event unique is not the physical challenge – though present – but its spirit: a Venice that reconnects with its natural element, water, without noise or haste. Rowing along these canals means rediscovering an ancient rhythm, that of the Venetian rowing tradition, and experiencing a collective moment of sustainability and respect.
