A veteran of conceptual art in New York, Denes’ influence over a wide array of art techniques cannot be overestimated. A pioneer of performative art in the 1960s, her Rice/Tree/Burial is considered one of the first site-specific projects of environmental art, and the first in a series of landscaping and farming ‘philosophical art’ projects by Denes, who is also a renowned theorist in the field of visual philosophy. At Biennale, Denes’ art will be featured in a series on the relationship between man and machine.
