One of the greatest protagonists of Brazil’s second generation of Modern Art, Volpi left a series of paintings of different styles, though all specially coloured, which earned him the moniker of ‘master of flags’. An eclectic artist and an experimentalist, his work can be divided into several phases. First, he made figurational art in classical style, then went on to simplify form. By the 1950s, he grew closer to abstract art, which set him far apart from the art of his youth.
