ALIGI SASSU

1912, Milan, Italy
2000, Pollença, Spain

Although best known to Italian collectors for his paintings of horses, an animal he loved, his many paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings and illustrations largely concern profoundly political themes. The series of paintings dedicated to the Spanish Civil War, or those of the ‘Red Men’, as well as the religious cycles of the Crucifixion or Deposition, are clearly intended to convey messages of protest.
