A Yanomami shaman from the upper Rio Catrimani region in the north of the Brazilian Amazon, in the 1970s André Taniki collaborated with anthropologist Bruce Albert to create work representing shamanic visions. In his work he combines colourful abstract motifs and schematic figurative elements, representing the phases of the cosmological work of his auxiliary spirits, the xapiri, which become unprecedented graphic translations of the Yanomami shamanic universe.
