Maya culture is no stranger to syncretism, and Cur- ruchich’s art choice may be viewed as syncretic, as well: the artist adopted Western art techniques (oil painting) and the themes that are most proper to his native region. With a sincerely ethnographic interest, the artist pictures scenes of everyday life in his country, thus becoming part of an artistic narrative that includes the dis- semination and testimony of the customs and traditions of the Americas for the Europeans.
