A geographer and university professor, Perna made his academic interests coincide with his artistic practice by traveling through Venezuela. He collected and archived hundreds of photographic images of communities that risked disappearing due to urban development: geographical maps upon which he pasted newspaper clippings, photographs, identity cards and various objects that demonstrate the country’s social and political complexity.
