COSTANTINO NIVOLA

1911, Orani, Italy
1988, East Hampton, USA

Basic forms sublimated into luminous volumes that combine the rationalism of design with an archaic, almost primordial feel. Nivola’s sculptures recall the popular culture of his homeland, Sardinia, and are the result of an ancestral memory filtered through the tastes of modernity in archetypal forms. The main themes of his work include the ‘mother’ and the ‘builder’ as first principles.
