She went beyond the style in which she had been trained in at the Academy in Rome, engaging with Fauvism and Cubism. She always chose to depict subjects from Egyptian daily life or related to the art of ancient Egypt, in constant dialogue with the anti-colonialist tensions active in the 20th century. Her desire to promote the appreciation of Egyptian culture eventually led her to create assemblages with artifacts and mixed media.
