Born in Cuneo, Ester Pilone emigrated to Argentina at just nineteen years of age. She studied Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and specialized in workshops and ateliers, before going to study in Europe, in France, Italy and Spain. She cultivated an abstract expressionist style, working with tempera and exhibiting a free and unbridled technique, often spreading the tempera on the canvas with her fingers, dragging small pieces of fabric or squashing it with the spatula. Her short, dynamic brushstrokes give her work an extremely vital, kinetic character.
