GEORGETTE CHEN

1906, Zhejiang, China
1993, Singapore

Chen is remembered for her lifelong commitment to art education in Singapore and to the import of Western art access canons in the Asian country, with the help of fellow artist and educator Lim Hak Tai. Thanks to her family’s interest for arts and culture and solidity of means, the artist travelled extensively in Europe and America, where she honed her post-impressionist style beautifully combined, on occasion, with southern Chinese style, known locally as Nanyang.
