After training in Santo Domingo, Jaime Colson perfected his painting skills in Paris. In 1918, he moved to Spain, studying at La Lonja in Barcelona and the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. From 1924 to 1934 he lived in Paris, where he was profoundly influenced by Cubism. A figurative artist, he would experiment with the various styles characterizing the movements of the time, from Cubism and Surrealism to Neoclassicism. Colson is considered one of the great 20th century painters of Latin America.
