He is considered to be one of Iraq’s greatest 20th century sculptors. Through his involvement with the Iraqi Baghdad Modern Art Group he encouraged artists to explore techniques that combined both ancient Assyrian-Babylonian art and modern art forms. His most famous work is Nasb al-Hurriyah monument (Freedom Monument) in Tahir Square, one of the main squares in Baghdad, celebrating 1958 Revolution of Iraq.
