JOAQUÍN TORRES-GARCÍA

1874, Montevideo, Uruguay
1949, Montevideo, Uruguay

We shall see relevant work from both artistic and theoretical points of view. Born in Montevideo, Torres-García moved to Catalonia before starting his art practice. He founded art schools and groups, and in 1929, he founded the first European abstract art society, Cercle et Carré, in Paris, which included Piet Mondrian and Kandinsky. The artist’s legacy is rooted in the development of modern Classicism and universal Constructivism.
