An Italian who emigrated at the age of 12, he is considered the progenitor of Argentine abstract art. He began to paint as a self-taught artist with a figurative and landscape style, but during a long formative stay in Paris he came into contact with personalities like Arp, Campigli, Herbin, Hélion and Vantongerloo and joined the Abstraction-Création group. Over the course of his forty-year career he exhibited in South America, in Europe – twice at the Venice Biennale– and in the United States, receiving prizes and honors. His eclectic work with its pictorial and sculptural inventions reveals the artist’s constant desire to experiment and incessantly rework materials, styles and techniques.
