Present both at the official exhibition and with an installation in the Australian Pavilion at the Giardini, Khaled Sabsabi’s work is marked by the trauma of war, experienced at a very young age when he fled the civil conflict in Lebanon with his family. Sabsabi primarily creates immersive installations through which he explores the media’s manipulation of violence, but also the complexity of religions – in particular Sufism – and issues related to Arab-Muslim identity, migration and social justice.
