LAI FOONG MOI

1931, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia
1995, Singapore

Lai Foong Moi’s painting was profoundly influenced by French Post-Impressionism, with which she came into contact as the first Malaysian artist to win a scholarship for a three-year training course in Paris. Her preferred subjects were landscapes and female portraits, created in search of new and highly introspective colour combinations, to outline a conception of painting as an open window onto the artist’s mind.
