By recontextualizing and reinterpreting vernacular elements such as flyers, murals, street signs and other icons of everyday life, Lauren Halsey creates immersive installations that combine sculpture, architecture and collage. She celebrates black culture in a form of creative resistance to the forces of gentrification, reclaims her own identity using the iconography of Ancient Egypt and is inspired by the Afrofuturist aesthetics of funk music and utopian architecture of the 1960s.
