A productive photographer and postcard publisher, Gismondi was born in Italy and lived in Bolivia, Peru, and Chile. He is considered a pioneer photographer in Bolivia for his early exploration of the cultural and social life of the country and for his documentation of Bolivia’s architecture and geography. His photo archive has been one of the first to include documentation on native people.
