MARIA MARTINS

1894, Campanha, Brazil
1973, Rio de Janeiro

The sculptures of this Brazilian artist are intimately connected to Surrealism, whose main themes she embraced even before joining the artistic movement. She chose to use bronze to give shape to her creations, where cannibalism and anthropophagism intertwine with mythology, deliberately detaching themselves from the lessons of the past to project themselves into a future that combines anguish, temptation, calm and happiness.
