María Martorell’s very long career was characterized by abstract forms painted with oil on canvas, and was celebrated by monographic exhibitions at home and abroad. In New York in the 1960s she came into contact with Pop Art and neo-figurative art, which influenced her work and directed her towards the conception of an art whose starting point was no longer mimesis or the contemplation of nature, but rather the world of ideas.
