Eliminating, clearing out, cutting away material until objects become lines, drawings in space, outlines of themselves: this is the method of “lyrical materialism” that interests Argentinian artist Mariana Telleria. She empties objects of their referentiality, removes them from their function and erases their semiotic nucleus, reflecting on the possible uses of forms and on the way in which human civilization is defined by metaphysics, cosmogony or philosophy. At the 58th Art Biennale she represented Argentina with the exhibition El nombre de un país, which condensed the elements of the artist’s operational and conceptual world.
