A renowned Bolivian sculptor, she created works in- spired by the female form, animals and Bolivian landscapes. With a sensual style characterized by sinuous curves, she used native woods, granite, alabaster, basalt and white onyx in her works. Among her most famous works are White Venus (1960) and Mother and Child, depicting indigenous figures. During her career she would have fruitful encounters with artists such as Picasso and poets such as Gabriela Mistral. Initially known only locally, over time her work would progressively receive international recognition.
