Tozzi came into contact with avant-garde art when he moved to Paris after fighting in the First World War. The encounter left a mark on the style of this artist who dealt with classical themes, his favourites including still lifes and portraits of women, depicted with realism subject to Picasso-like decompositions, volumetric definitions reminiscent of Cézanne and juxtapositions of objects and shapes that evoke metaphysical atmospheres.
