MOHAMED HAMIDI

BORN 1941, Casablanca, Morocco
LIVES&WORKS Casablanca and Azemmour, Marocco

The abstract language of Mohamed Hamidi’s work is based around clear sexual and erotic allusions: silhouettes, interlocking shapes and flat fields of bright and contrasting colours which exert a mesmeric attraction thanks to the obvious references. Using these forms, Hamidi developed a visual dialogue where religious symbols and visual references to the social and cultural reality of his country also find a place.
