NAZEK HAMDI

1926, Cairo, Egypt
2019, Cairo, Egypt

A painter, graphic artist and exponent of the Egyptian Academy, her work was influenced by the arts and culture of India, focusing on batik, which in her hands transformes from a purely decorative technique into a valid, brightly chromatic pictorial art. Her themes mainly deal with scenes of everyday life: the market or children playing, but also haughty beauties and penetrating glances, compositions animated by the typical coloured cobwebs of batik.
