She was a Filipina artist of modernist and abstract paintings and ink drawings. After an impressionist and naturalist beginning she took up a more abstract style under Picasso influence. She started painting modernist compositions of Philippines scenes and experimenting with many techniques like employing syringes to paint her famous circular forms and dots, rubbing coffee grounds on her works. That’s why she is considered as a pioneer of Filippino abstract art.
