NIL YALTER

BORN Cairo, Egypt, 1938
LIVES&WORKS Paris, France

A pioneer of socially engaged and feminist art (“too political” according to her detractors) this year she will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. A reconfiguration of her 1983 installation Exile Is a Hard Job will be shown along with her iconic nomadic architecture Topak Ev (1973). She transformed the disadvantages of being a female artist in the 1970s into a creative opportunity outside the conventions of the art world and galleries.
