OLGA COSTA

1913, Leipzig, Germany
1993, Guanajuato, Mexico

A protagonist of the birth of a national art sentiment in her adoptive country (Olga Kostakowsky’s family fled Czarist Russia to take refuge in Germany first, and in Mexico later), her career commenced as a self-taught painter enchanted by the beauty of colour and life in Mexico. The strength and spontaneousness of Olga Costa’s paintings reflect and accompany the celebration of a fully Mexican modernist art current.
