ROBERTO GIL DE MONTES

BORN 1950, Guadalajara, Mexico
LIVES&WORKS La Peñita de Jaltemba, Mexico

Roberto Gil de Montes moved to America as a boy. In his new country, he would join the Chicano art movements in Southern California. The artist has been included in the prestigious exhibition Hispanic Art in the United States: Thirty Contemporary Painters and Sculptors, which toured the country in the 1980s. His figurative and landscape art shows his native Mexico, his life in Echo Park, Mexican folk art, the tradition of retablos and ex voto art – all in a semi-real, semi-imaginary style.
