The product of an academic background, his early work was influenced by naturalism. A passionate traveler, he documented his journeys by painting the characters, customs and traditions of the places he visited. After having stayed in various regions of Italy and lived for some time in Rome he went to Tunisia, then left again for the East (Java, Bali, Jakarta, Manila), attentively depicting the daily life of each place he visited.
