Rozo used art in its twofold utility as a tool for investigation and construction. A citizen of a young nation whose intellectual class looked for an honest synthesis of the pre-Spanish substrate and of colonial culture to create an original, properly Colombian corpus, Rozo studied in Europe, where he stood out for his personal adoption of modernist style. He spent his later years in Yucatan, where he is remembered for his celebration of the region’s individuality and identity.
