Known in the art world for his equal commitment to art proper and to the popularization of Ma¯ori art history, Sandy Adsett analyses the essential stylistic unities of his culture and studies them by means of elaboration and contamination with modern European art, and graphic art in particular. In his academic life, Adsett contributed to the systemization of original New Zealander art – not Ma¯ori exclusively – and to the education of New Zealand’s younger generation of artists.
