SIDSEL MEINECHE HANSEN

BORN 1981, Ry, Denmark
LIVES&WORKS London, UK

The in-depth study and critique of the manipulation and control of the human body by capitalism and patriarchy are the main instances investigated by the Danish artist, who calls her work an “attempt to hack the virtual pornographic body”. The commercialization of Virtual Reality, the colonization of digital space, the commodification of the virtual body, the relationship between the avatar, the 3D body and the user: through her immersive works Meineche Hansen sheds a new light on “immaterial work”, using feminist history, philosophy and queer theory to open a debat on the relationship between sex, technology and reproductive work.
