An American visual artist, dancer, choreographer and writer, she was a leading member of the anti-establishment youth groups of the ‘60s who sought a cultural and artistic alternative to traditional canons, and was part of the collective that was at the origin of post-modern dance. Her work changed the very concept of performance and the roles of the dancer and choreographer. Her structured improvisations with speeches and movements and her collaboration with the artist Nam June Paik are particularly notable.
