He is best known for his skills as a calligrapher and a painter. He was a poet as well, author of hundreds of rubaiyat in Omar Khayyam style. Thanks to his works he has turned calligraphy into a mass art form. One of his most important works while living in Paris were his illustrations for a limited edition of Camus’ novel The Stranger. He also painted a lot of monumental murales as the one adorning the halls of the State Bank of Pakistan in Karachi.
