A pioneer of Egyptian expressionism in the 1960s, she left a significant mark on the country’s art history. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cairo, she moved to Paris with her husband, avant-garde artist Hamed Abdallah, to join the Julian Academy. In 1958, she was the first woman to receive the prestigious Guggenheim International Prize. Her works focus on daily Egyptian life and draw powerful inspiration from her native region of Nubia, which Halim represents with great sensitivity and emotional depth, exploring its cultural matrices and political horizons.
