Tina Modotti

TINA MODOTTI

Udine, Italy, 1896
Mexico City, 1942

Tina Modotti’s early work was influenced by American photographer Edward Weston, whose assistant and model she was during the years of the Mexican Revolution. A socially engaged artist, she developed her own expressive language with a powerful visual impact which conveyed social and political messages. She recounted the epochal changes of her day by photographing famous personalities, but dedicated herself above all to examining the daily life of farmers and workers, with a particular focus on women.
