Xiyadie’s name means Siberian Butterfly, and he chose it after he moved to Beijing in 2005 and joined its thriving gay cultural community. The Siberian butterfly manages to survive in extreme conditions and keeps alive its vanity and its search for freedom in a hostile environment. His work as a self-taught artist working in traditional Chinese paper-cutting mainly deals with homoerotic themes.
