YÊDAMARIA

1932, Salvador, Brazil
2016, Salvador, Brazil

A famous Brazilian artist who stands out for her paintings, engravings and collages, which often depict landscapes, marine scenes and still lifes. Over time, still lifes in particular became a focal point of her artistic practice, allowing her to explore a vast range of colours and lighting through the careful observation of fruit, flowers and carefully laid tables. From 1969 Yêdamaria also began to explore themes connected to Afro-Brazilian religions and to address issues relating more specifically to femininity and feminism.
