Born in a high-class Punjabi family, Zubeida Agha cleverly exploited her privileged position to import and innovate modernism in what was to become her country – Pakistan, founded in 1947. In 1949, her first exhibition presented abstract art to a scandalised Pakistani audience. Her art elaborates on pure idea, pure concept, drawing freely from European and Asian inspiration.
