For its second participation in the Art Biennale, Ghana presents a project on the concept of freedom by revisiting the image of the black star in the Ghanaian flag and in national monuments. By amplifying its symbolic value to such questions as Pan-Africanism and anti-colonialism, the black star is the starting point for a reflection on the myth, history, and traditions of a country that tries to break free of the legacy of its past and social policies that cannot seem to work the way they’re intended.
