DANIELE RUSTIONI

Stagione Sinfonica 2023-2024
Friday
31 May 2024

Daniele Rustioni conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Teatro La Fenice, as part of the 2023-2024 Symphonic Season. The maestro, recognised as the Best Conductor at the International Opera Awards 2022 and one of the most important conductors of his generation in both the operatic and symphonic repertoire, will conduct the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro La Fenice – with Alfonso Caiani as Chorus Master – and a cast of prestigious soloists: soprano Ana Maria Labin, mezzo-soprano Veronica Simeoni, tenor Francesco Demuro and bass Adolfo Corrado. The Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 125, the last completed symphonic composition by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), is one of the most important pages of German symphonic literature and a monument of music of all time. The creation of this imposing and revolutionary symphonic fresco, which included for the first time the presence of soloists and choir, occupied Beethoven’s mind for most of his life: the composer jotted down some musical elements as early as 1794, proposed them in other works, and it is likely that the very idea of setting Schiller’s ode, An die Freunde – a text from 1785, which had become a symbol of the ideals of young Germans – to music had already occurred to him during his university years in Bonn.
