A staging that we should elevate to paradigmatic, fantastic exercise of meta-theatre: Ariadne auf Naxos is a theatre-within- the-theatre show commissioned by a talented young composer, to be followed by an Italian-style farce. There is not enough time for both shows to take place, though, so the headmaster orders both shows to be run concurrently: a fusion of means and styles that leaves it all to unbridled talent. Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos will be at Fenice Theatre in late June, a total of five performances from June 21 to 30. Director Pal Curran, costumer Gary McCann, light designer Howard Hudson, conductor Markus Stenz will work with a cast that includes Karl-Heinz Macek, Markus Werba, Anna Lucia Richter, John Matthew Myers, Nicola Pamio, Blagoj Nacoski, Francesco Milanese, Matteo Ferrara, Olga Pudova, Sara Jakubiak, Äneas Humm, Mathias Frey, Szymon Chojnacki, Enrico Casari, Jasmin Delfs, Marie Seidler, and Giulia Bolcato.
