A double anniversary, the centenary of Luigi Nono’s birth and the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg’s birth, falls in 2024: La Fenice celebrates the two great masters of modern music with a diptych performance combining Luigi Nono’s La fabbrica illuminata and Arnold Schoenberg’s Erwartung. The staging is a new production with direction by Daniele Abbado, set and light design by Angelo Linzalata, costumes by Giada Masi, and choreographic movements by Riccardo Micheletti. Musical direction will be by Jérémie Rhorer conducting the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra. Performing in the Illuminated Factory will be soprano Sarah Maria Sun – replacing Valentina Corò, who had to drop out due to indisposition – with Alvise Vidolin conducting the sound. While Heidi Melton will play the woman in the Waiting. The diptych will be staged at Teatro La Fenice as part of the 2023-2024 Opera and Ballet Season. The performance on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 7 p.m. will be broadcast live on radio by Rai Radio3.
