“Opera, neutro plurale” by Emilio Sala (edizioni il Saggiatore) will be presented at the Fenice in a free-entrance meeting involving not only the author but also the former Superintendent and Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina, the publisher Luca Formenton and the music critic Stefano Nardelli. A book that proposes opera in a new light thanks to the very form of the volume, conceived, as the subtitle states, as a “Glossary for opera lovers of the 21st century”.
Arranged alphabetically, the categories, characters, figures, common and uncommon places of that musical spectacle we call ‘opera’ are brought together in a book that does its utmost not to sound like an encyclopaedia. In Opera, neutro plurale Emilio Sala makes use of decades of study and application to the subject to create a book that can be consulted or read by excerpts, in any order, but also invites you to immerse yourself in its flow as if it were a novel. Beginning with the Acuti and ending with the Zeitoper, passing through the Fiasco, the Mammismo, the Recitativo, without dodging the Pazzia, Political correctness and even Unesco, Emilio Sala reminds us that opera is theatre but also everything that goes beyond it as a musical fact, as a performance, as a system of meanings and a stimulator of experiences.
